~ 2023 ~
Svalbard had been on my list for a long time.
A wonderfully rugged place, beautiful, yet inhospitable at the same time, it has so many things to draw any photographer (if you are comfortable with a potentially bumping landing!)
A place of ice and snow, 24 hour daylight/night, varied flora and fauna of all kinds including many polar bears.
So much of what you can do/see is on the water - whale watching, general boat trips into the ice - but you can also hike up glaciers or explore its industrial towns, none of which are big!
Snap the famous "Gjelder hele Svalbard" signs, venture to the world's northernmost year-round research station of Ny-Ålesund. Practice your night sky photography in the winter months or try to aim for the twilight months for those beautiful purple sunrise/sunset shots!
